About the Run
The plan:
Run across Nebraska from Henry, NE to the Missouri River on the eastern edge of Omaha, approximately 480 miles away. I plan to cover an average of 35 miles per day in 14 days. The run will take place on sections of Nebraska’s designated scenic byways and other state highways until reaching Omaha.
When and Where:
April 19th until I finish, hopefully in 15 days.
Henry, NE to Omaha, NE
Why:
Initially the idea was just to do this as a personal challenge. Take two weeks of vacation and head down the road, see how far I get.
I happen to work at what I feel is one of the finest institutions of caring for abused, abandoned, and neglected children anywhere, Girls and Boys Town. Why not attempt to give a little something back from employee to employer? I’ve been with Girls and Boys Town for over nine years and have been able to see indirectly the effect it can have on a child who had few, if any positive influences in their lives prior to arriving on campus or one of our many sites across the country.
Since 1917 Girls and Boys Town has existed and provided service to these abused, abandoned, and neglected children because of the donations of many caring and concerned citizens and business in Omaha and around the world.
My principal aim is to give the employees of Girls and Boys Town an opportunity to join me in giving back, not to our empoyer, but to the kids we take care of. I will take a 90 year message of help, healing and hope with me on the road and will tell anyone that asks why I am running. They will then have a chance to see what Girls and Boys Town is all about and why it is so important to me and the girls and boys that are served by it.
